Hi Steve…..I have your book, it’s great and I promote it to other beginner researchers. I have been having no luck to locate a Michael? Olender of the 1920-30s from Chicago Heights, IL. He may have had a shop. No obit. found, and not born there, but married or died there is a possibilty. Might you have access to some recent data. He visited his relatives in Hadley and Northampton, MA one time in this time period and had male sisblings. John Skibiski

Michael does seem to be elusive. I checked the 1920 and 1930 census records and did not find him. Some people I did find Olenders living in Chicago but none in Chicago Heights. Some people were missed on one census but not all. His name may have been recorded with a mis-spelling, He may be using a different name.
Who is Michael? When was he born? Who were his parents? Why do you think he was in Chicago Heights?
To find him search using only his first name and other details. Look for his spouse or children.
I always start with the U’S’ census records, then move on to city directories, birth records for children and his marriage record
Steve…..my only data about Michael? Olender is that a woman Julia Butynski married Michael Bemben in Hadley, MA…..her mother was an Olender in Podkamien (Brody) East Galicia. She said Michael? Olender came from Chicago Heights to an event perhaps a funeral maybe in the 1930s. My great grandmother was as Olender from that village. He perhaps was a tailor and his first name could be different and thought to have brothers Peter and ? I note a Michael B. 1870 married Pauline Czasnykowski but know nothing of them…….however, I note a Michael Olender in Hartford, Ct in 1930 census then 37, but have not checked him out. One older Skibicki relative spoke of Olender family, so I feel there is connection somewhere. Thanks for whatever you come up with, John Skibicki, Northampton, MA

I live in Southern California and was wondering if there is a tape or CD of your class on Polish American Genealogy on Sat. May 21 from 9am to 3pm. I would really love to hear what you have to say, but can’t make the class. Help!!!
The May 21 workshop is a three session event sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Society. I believe they are not taping it. However, I am presenting the material in the first session in a free Webinar tonight for the Illinois State Genealogical Society (http://www.ilgensoc.org/). The material in the 2nd and 3rd sessions were covered in a webinar for ISGS last year. There is still time to sign up for tonight’s webinar but if you miss it, ISGS has both webinar’s archived and viewable in their Members Only section. To access their member’s only section you need to join their society ($35).
